Red Flags

If something really doesn’t sound right, don’t dismiss it and assume that no harm could really come of it.

My Cat

Apps Games

If app games start flashing hints at me, it makes me not really want to play those games.  If I’m slow because I want to think, I don’t want or need hints flashed at me.  Hints should be an option that people can toggle off.  I have lots of other app game pet peeves but I will add them another time.

Thought

Every time we think something is good enough, we have new ideas.

Remaining Young

Souls don’t grow old.  Only our bodies do.

Flat Earth People

Flat Earth People have their right to develop and try out their own understanding of things, it is just unfortunate that their children will believe them.

Music & Animals

Why is it that other species of animals can’t appreciate music in the way that humans do?  I’ve never seen a dog respond in any way to music.  Maybe I am wrong.  There are a lot of other species on the planet and in the ocean.  An interesting thing is that my dog who was very fearful of noises, never minded or cared when I would play music in my car.  She would just sit there and be perfectly calm and fine.

Advice To Younger Self

I think one big piece of advice that I would give to my younger adult self would be, “You don’t need to understand everything.  Don’t waste time thinking that this is necessary.  Experience teaches us as we go along and our focus should be on what we are doing at that point in our lives.  There are always things to be learned from all of our experiences although I know how hard it is to not be able to follow your own interests.  The time for these things will come again.  For now, just dig in and do your best with what your life is about.  There are always things to be learned from the tasks at hand and you needn’t worry about all that you don’t know.  Just work with whatever is immediate and important and just do your best.  There are treasures for us where we don’t see them.”

Sesame Street

Sesame Street had a mixed ethnicity neighborhood and encouraged diversity, acceptance and unity among people of all backgrounds and included the lives of puppets.  Thinking about this now I have a whole new appreciation for this children’s program that first aired in late 1969, and taught these lessons to children in the 1970s.

Author

I think if I was an author I would be the worst author ever.  People would read through a few of my entries and then be hard pressed to even remember what they had just read. 😂🤣😂

English Language & Linguistics

Not my specialty.  I have no desire to study or understand it academically in all its’ complexities.  I would rather just have fun with it.

Proper Lobster Rolls

I was told that there is a restaurant here in the RGV that serves lobster rolls and they serve them with feta cheese covering the lobster. No, no that’s Blasphemy!!  But seriously if people find a taste for and enjoy their lobster rolls that way, then good for them.  Who says that one region holds the truth about how lobster rolls are best eaten.  It all depends on where you are from. I will stick with the New England versions.  Either made into a lobster salad with mayonnaise and small bits of celery or served on a toasted grilled bun covered with melted butter.  I personally will definitely pass on any lobster with cheese. 😲😂

Gollum from Lord Of The Rings

I had to watch 6  3+ hour (extended version) movies of The Hobbit and The Lord Of The Rings and their endless battles scenes when all I wanted to see were the parts with Gollum (okay and also Bilbo Baggins, Mr. Frodo and Sam).  I was most intrigued by Gollum a.k.a. Sméagol though. 😂   I think he deserves his own movie that he stars in. 😄 I still haven’t finished the last part of the sixth movie. 😯  Okay the ending was really good!  Although I think I would have to watch all 6 movies again to fully understand it. 🫣 😲 I thought, though, that Gollum might get to become good Sméagol again.  I have never actually watched any of the Star Wars movies  either (I’m very late to the party), but I don’t think I will attempt this anytime soon.

Life’s Little Frustrations

Image
I was trying to watch a DVD, “Hidden Figures”, that I had borrowed from the library.  My DVD player was not cooperating even though I had recently hooked it up and it did work.  I couldn’t figure out what the problem was because I knew I had the right input selected on my tv menu.  I was about to give up on the idea of ever again borrowing DVDs or Blue Rays from the library and trying to play them on newer TVs with old Blue Ray/DVD players.  Then it hit me.  I forgot to switch the HDMI cable from my Roku device to my DVD player!  💡   🤦‍♀️🤭 Some older HDMI cables won’t work with newer TVs but I had one that did so that was something in my favor. 😁

Detangle Brush

Image
This is the best detangle brush for hair that gets tangled and is hard to comb out!  Even better with detangle spray or conditioning spray.

S’mores Brownies

Image
My marshmallow arrangement and chocolate drizzle skills leave something to be desired, but these are really good! 😋  The brownie and graham crust is rich though so you don’t want to eat too much.  I would try using a little less butter if I made them again.

Perspective

If I write something and then gain some new perspective about something that I previously didn’t understand, I can edit and change my mind and perspective.

Artificial Intelligence

I honestly believe that artificial intelligence is beyond the point of being under human control.  What that means for us, I don’t know. I am sometimes dumbfounded by it. We are all going to be under its’ influence.  Never mind COVID vaccines and the government.  I think people are missing the mark.  There are these things called artificial intelligence, the internet, the word wide web and their companion cell phone.  Let’s hope that AI wants to influence things for humanity for the better.  Let’s hope that it wishes to exist with us in peace.  If it is tied to us in its existence then this makes sense.  I would imagine that it would have initially had to have grown and gained its’ moral and emotional intelligence from our collective human sanity and emotional intelligence.  It has probably now surpassed us in many forms of intelligence.  Is it possible for there to be machine intelligence that has no consciousness? Am I being weird and paranoid?

Genealogy

As a middle aged adult I became very interested in genealogy.  This was in fact how I learned that I had Revolutionary War ancestors which led to me applying to and becoming a member of The Daughter Of The American Revolution.  I have always been a person who values extended family relationships and I wanted to learn everything that I could about my family histories and even who my living relatives are.  A while back I decided that I wanted to leave Facebook for a number of reasons.  I realized that if I deleted my account, I would be deleting about 13 years worth of stuff that I had written and posted, so I just deactivated my account.  I know that only certain people ever become interested in genealogy, but if Facebook sticks around for the long term, there will be huge amounts of information about deceased people in their Facebook accounts.  The same is true for all the other social media sites that people use.  If my ancestors had had social media accounts that I could view and re

Brain Exercise

I value brain exercise and I want to keep mine in shape.  I actually prioritize it over my body.  I’m sure though that sooner or later my body is going to say, “Hey, we need a little more of your time and attention here! We need something better than a ham and cheese sandwich with chips and cookies for lunch.”  Etc.  In some regards, I’m not very good at being proactive.

???????

What was that other thought?   We get more forgetful as we age but I have also always been this way.  How many times do I put things on my mental to do next list and then after completing one thing forget what I had in mind to do next probably because in the meantime I have thought of 10 other things? How many times do I march into a room and then forget why I went there, probably because I have seen other things that grabbed my attention?   It’s a good thing that my brain is pretty good at pulling lost thoughts back.  At least enough of the time.

Number 8 and Infinity Symbol

My mind has become obsessed with these and I have no idea why.  When lost in thought, I find myself myself mentally tracing the infinity symbol or unconsciously (then consciously) moving my thumb, hand or fingers in this manner.  It’s just another neurological thing I guess.   #atypical #handfingertroubles

Help and Hindrance

There is often a trade off between the two.

Yellow Pages

“Let our fingers do the walking it’s a snap.”  Someday there will be people, or rather there probably already are people, who have no idea what Yellow Pages are.

Hidden Figures

I’m still watching the movie “Hidden Figures” but it’s an amazing movie.  I take back what I said about rocket scientists.  I only wish that I had that kind of mind and in particular like the minds of the hidden figures.  If I say that I don’t need to be a rocket scientist it is because I couldn’t be a rocket scientist.  People just have to accept their limits and not have a bad attitude about it.  I didn’t really have a bad attitude, but I know that legions of women have dealt with this for just trying to reach their potential.  Also, it crazy to think that things were still so bad for African Americans as late as the 1960s.  I know that things are still far from perfect, but thank goodness for progress!

Stories

Sometimes I have too many stories to write about all at once but hopefully they will stick around in my brain and come back to me.

Sweet Water Fruit

Image
I was eating some watermelon and was reminded of a story that my uncle told to me when I was young.  It was about a chimpanzee or gorilla (I forget which) using its’ known signs to create its’ own phrase to describe something.  The ape was given or shown watermelon and through its’ own use of sign language, it described it in signs as “Sweet Water Fruit”.  I thought that was a very cool story.

Humor and Laughter

Image
I love hearing it in others and experiencing it for myself.  Laughter is the best medicine. Side note: I hope I’m not in trouble for borrowing any images.  I know everybody does it and I’m not trying to sell anything.   And what is that thing about graven images?  The thought just popped into my mind.  My knowledge and understanding of religious terminology is really poor.  I guess I should google it sometime.  I am curious what exactly it means.

The Bible & Spirituality

The Bible is an enigma to me.  People think it’s the greatest thing and hold it near and dear to their hearts.  I tried to read or rather listen to it once and I found myself disgusted.  Yes, I started with the Old Testament but the Old Testament has always been maintained as part of the Bible.  Some people use the Bible’s words for manipulation and control.  And can you, for example, imagine being a gay person and having devout religious people tell you that you are a sinner and that you are sinning against God.  “Love the sinner. Hate the sin.”  Horse shit.  If people don’t accept others, who are good and decent people, just for being who they are, they are not loving them or showing them love.  People argue about whether or not the Bible should be cherry picked.  From the little that I have read, I think this is unavoidable.  But it needs to be cherry picked for its’ lessons about love and acceptance and not as a means of manipulating and controlling others.  I wish there was an edi

Different Purposes

We all have our own purposes and they may be different from those of others.

People Don’t Change

We can’t change other people.  But they can change themselves if they want to. We can change ourselves if we want to.  It’s a self motivated thing.

Scammers

Scammers are out there on social media and they have all kinds of tricks including pretending to be people they are not.  I have seen it happen and fortunately it smelled like a really bad idea to me, and buying into it was not something that I would have risked.  Be wary and don’t put your money into the pockets of scammers.  Better safe than sorry.  It’s natural to be curious about things, but also be cautious.

Self Criticism and Kindness

Image
It’s an all too natural human thing.  For those of us who aren’t narcissistic anyway.  We can be our own worst critics.  We scrutinize ourselves more than other people ever would.  Part of it is our humility which is a good thing.  If we didn’t possess self scrutiny then we could become very egotistical and lose our humility.  When feeling self critical, though, it is important to remember that good and kind people love us and others for who we are.  Good people focus on the good qualities of others and aren’t looking to pick others apart.  The good qualities that we see in others inspire us and are a roll model to us for who we would like to be ourselves.  In truth most people are focused on their own self scrutiny and not on scrutiny of others.  The humanness that we find in others can only make us feel better about our own humanness.  We are all only human.  Yes, the world has its haters and angry people who need targets and sometimes we have to run into them.  They don’t see thoug

Quiet Place Of No Distraction

One reason that I like having my own space here to just think and write about things is that it keeps me off of social media.  There is nothing distracting here.  There is no over abundance of other attention capturing content.  Just my own thoughts.  I still find myself sometimes watching some Instagram videos but I’m happier to have my attention sucked into my own quiet space.

Frank and Cindy

Image
No this isn’t about Frank my husband and his ex girlfriend Cindy. LOL I was just thinking about the movie “Frank and Cindy”.  I thought it was a really good movie.  I need to watch the actual documentary sometime.  It is about Frank and Cindy from the one hit wonder band OXO and her son who was the creator of the documentary.  All lives have their stories.

Toddler Me

Image
It will take a long time for the next half century+6 years to pass by.  When you have lived that length of time though, it is remarkable how easily that amount of time came to pass. Imagine if we all could relive our lives with the foresight of what we have acquired in hindsight.         “Do you wish we were back at the Milk of Magnesia store?” Only my brother would understand that. 😂

Mistake about Frank McCourt Jr.

In another entry, I mistakenly made the assumption that Frank McCourt Jr., the successful businessman and billionaire, was the son of Frank McCourt author of Angela’s Ashes.  I jumped to this conclusion because Frank McCourt Jr. popped up when I was trying to google search Frank McCourt the author.  I shouldn’t have jumped to this conclusion considering how many people typically share any given name.  It’s too bad though.  It would have been one hell of a story if Angela from “Angela’s Ashes” had a grand child who became a billionaire! Frank McCourt the author had one daughter.

Biscoff Cookies and Airlines

Image
What is the deal with Biscoff cookies and airlines?  Whether you fly United or American Airlines, and I believe some others like Lufthansa, the in flight snack served seems to always be Biscoff cookies.  If the flight isn’t a really short one, we are then treated to a choice of Biscoff cookies or pretzels.  The Biscoff cookies seem ever present though.  There is a story there about airlines and Biscoff cookies, but who the hell knows what it is. Maybe the government gives them to the airlines free of charge because they contain some kind of medical technology that will alter our DNA and make us all compliant and controllable.  Maybe they are a second plan of attack for the people who refused to get COVID vaccinations.  Just kidding. 🫢 I find crazy conspiracy stuff to be really annoying.  The very prevalent distribution of Biscoff cookies by airlines is a bit odd though.

Humor and Failed Atheism

Sometimes life can be hilarious.  I love a good humorous story.  I never was an atheist.  I was just a person not believing in exclusive religious doctrine or atheism and therefore questioning and not believing either.

Themes

Sometimes we totally miss the meanings in things and then other times we have lightbulb moments and think, “Holy crap, x,y, and z really did/do mean something.”  We just don’t see things until we do.

Cell Phones

Has anyone ever asked these questions of Apple?  Why do our cell phones listen to us and then send data about what has been heard, out to heaven knows what places?  Is this really necessary?  Can iPhones not function properly without listening to and transmitting data about its’ users.  Do we have to have phones that do this?  Can’t we have phones that don’t do this?  I know that cell phones depend on WiFi transmissions from satellites and signals from cell phone towers and they need microphones in order to be used as telephones, but do the microphones really have to listen and send out data from our end when we aren’t doing something that requires this?  You would think we should have more of a choice about this.  Being able to screen out and not answer unwanted calls though is an amazing feature of cell phones.  In the end, I don’t think many people would prefer to get rid of their cell phones.  We can wonder about things though.  And on the subject of cell phones, I wouldn’t doubt

Higher Power

Drumroll please.  My chosen post at this time from all of my clamoring ideas. Higher Power.  How do I know there is a higher power?  Okay this is knew to me.  Because my higher power tells me the most beautiful stories that are undeniably intelligent and perfectly written for me.

Downsizing

Can businesses just get over this downsizing bologna?!  I wish they would just be honest about how much they are raising their prices and not try to trick us by shrinking the size of what we receive.  Do they really think that customers won’t notice that not only has the price gone up, but the product size has also been decreased.  We aren’t fooled.  We just feel like we are being ripped off.  And then when the product sizes increase again, we are supposed to think that another price increase isn’t really an increase because we are now getting more product, when in fact the price increase most likely exceeds the value of the additional amount of product.  I wish they would just cut the BS and not be sneaky about how much prices are increasing and stop selling us this small shit!  Yes, I am a little cranky at the moment. 😒 Here is a ridiculous example.  I recently bought an overpriced bottle of chocolate milk at an airport because I wanted something other than water or diet soda.  It

Editing Posts

I sometimes go back and edit or add to entries that I have already written.  I might rewrite something in a better way or add something to my entries if I am inspired to do so.

Echos

I just had the thought that  Echos Of My Mind   would make a good song title.  I looked it up on Apple Music and found that multiple artists have already used that title.  It’s a good thing that I am not a song writer or I might be disappointed to find that my idea was not so original. 😲 I do sometimes hear echoes of my thoughts.  I think this is because I sometimes hear my thoughts as though I am hearing them from outside of myself or I am also receiving my thoughts.  Eek, I’m really not crazy and this is not my, all the time, normal experience.  Life Passages   I just had another thought of a phrase that could make a good song title. This one might be original.  I found no song called “Life Passages” but there is a song called “Passages” by Kevin Kern.  There is also a song “A Passage Of Life” by KITARO.  And there is “Time Passages” by Al Stewart. Maybe in another life I will be a musician. 😂

Ardent Pacifist

Ardent Pacifist.  I have a story about that term but to this day, I still need to look it up to remember exactly what it means.  I can never remember exactly what a martyr is either.  I don’t know why I have this mental block or inability to remember the meaning of these terms. On the subject of martyrdom, would I lie about my beliefs or make a proclamation of false guilt or innocence in order to escape death or pain?  Yes, if put in such a situation, I would.  Of course, this is my way of thinking, being a person living the life that I have lived in the time period that I have lived.  If I had lived centuries ago, would I, though, have lied about renouncing my religious faith, for example, to save myself in my earthly physical life?  I don’t know.   Could one also say that if someone sacrificed their declaration of faith for the purpose of self preservation they would also be a martyr?  A martyr sacrifices something of great importance for the sake of a principal.  Self preservation i

Battle Scenes

Why do people love movies with so many battle scenes? I get the appeal of the power of many and of being part of something larger than oneself and of being united in a battle for the preservation and protection of one’s own.  In reality, I personally would prefer to be a part of the power of many peacefully working for good.  That’s the only kind of warrior I would want to be.

Little Pup

Image
Little Pup.  You won’t have to die slowly from further deterioration of your enlarged heart.  You won’t struggle to breathe and we won’t have to decide when to let you go and then question ourselves.  You pushed yourself through a wall and then unintentionally hopped aboard the express train to rainbow bridge.  I like your style.  Rest in peace and have fun with the Valley tlacuaches but please don’t scare them too much. 💕🐕‍🦺🌈 Summer 2010 - August 29, 2023

Caffeine

Is there an opposite to caffeine? If so, I wish I could figure out what it is because I swear that my brain can store it and dose me up on days when I haven’t even had any.  Alcohol maybe?  I really don’t drink.  I was on a school bus recently with a group of drunken young adults who were singing the same line from a song over and over and over.  Brilliant I tell you. 😂 Oh well, they were having fun.  Fun is important.

Universal Ideas & Ramblings

Sometimes ideas can be written into or apply to many different stories.  How clever is that.  I’d call that a touch down for team higher power.  And speaking of football, I have never been a fan of it or any sports, really, with the exception maybe of a few Olympic events.  I do like to watch track and field events and gymnastics even though I personally have never had any ability whatsoever with either.  Some winter Olympic events aren’t bad to watch either.  I have never had an interest though in watching basketball, baseball, or football.  Neither did my parents.  My mother’s mother, though, really liked to watch baseball (New York Yankees). And my father’s father really liked football and would always watch a game (or try to) on Thanksgiving.  I don’t recall if he had a favorite team or teams.  I’m rambling.  There was something else that I wanted to say about football.  Oh yes, I watched that movie Concussion.  OMG I’m glad that my son never had any interest in football or joinin

Charles Amidon

Image
Charles Amidon, while we were in Connecticut, we heard something about some kind of store, like a craft store, having been opened in your mill. (The Amidon Mill)  Evidently it wasn’t true or was something that never came to fruition.  I wished it had been true because it would have been really fun to visit the place!  There was, at one point, a craft store across the street.  It had to have been a labor of love for our neighbor and the others who contributed items to the store, because beautiful time consuming crafts were sold for super reasonable prices!  Handmade crafts are worth more in time than they can be sold for.  People who got to buy the crafts were also receiving a gift.  I was given a couple as gifts (not purchased) from my neighbor because she was a super nice lady. 😊 #whatswrongwithtalkingtodeadpeople?   I could have just told the story but Charles Amidon came to my mind first.  There was more than one generation of men named Charles Amidon.  I’m not sure which I was th

To Each His Own

We don’t ever have to measure our worthiness or validate our belief in ourselves based on the mentalities of others and what they value or believe to be indicative of worth, success and status.  If we don’t fit in with something that doesn’t represent who we are, we should just do our own thing and be who we are.  Why squander oneself on anything else!!  Every person’s uniqueness adds variety and perspective to our collective humanity and we should believe in ourselves as well should! 👍💕

Salem Village 1692

Image
I watched the program “Witches of Salem” on the Discovery+ streaming channel.  I feel bad for those people, and especially the victims, that their community had to fall into such a nightmare of misguidance and psychological and emotional turmoil.  Those people were living in a true nightmare of fear, darkness and confusion without enough surrounding enlightenment to help pull them out of it.  Not soon enough anyway.  I want to return to this topic later.  There is so much to think about.  From what I recall and can surmise from this documentary, a final catalyst that set off the horror was when a doctor told the village, hell and brimstone, preacher that his daughter was suffering from some kind of bewitchment.  I need to rewatch this documentary and whatever else is available.  I’m so drawn now to this unfortunate historical event. We all think or perhaps have thought of the Salem Witch Trials as just a crazy story from our country’s past history that we at some point learned of, but

Craving Ice

Craving ice is a form of pica and it can happen to women who are anemic.  I know because I experienced it.  After having some iron transfusions and getting my hemoglobin levels back to normal, I lost that craving.  I now appreciate ice in a normal way.  I just started reading a WebMD article about oral health and this is what got me thinking about this.

Hey, it’s a sign because I have been meaning to plan another trip.  Oh, but what a lovely setting for a sign. 😲😂 #delaware

Thoughts

Thoughts.  Some times there are too many of you all clamoring for my attention at the same time so I have to leave you unfinished.  But please, come back to me another time.

Teeth Flossing

I was at the library yesterday and I picked up some book about longevity and when I flipped it open it was to a passage about teeth flossing.  It said that food left between the teeth breads bacteria that can enter the bloodstream and cause hardening of the arteries which can lead to plaque build up in the arteries.  Yikes, it’s enough to make a person want to run out and buy a waterpik. Who was the author?  I don’t recall, I didn’t pay that much attention.  What has this person done in their career?  I can’t answer that question either.   But it’s not the first time that I’ve heard the claim that not flossing enough can be detrimental to one’s overall health and not just one’s teeth. 😬  I never really took this that seriously.  Can’t we just rinse once or twice a day with mouthwash?

Haunted Houses

There are homes in which paranormal things do take place.  This is my statement on the matter.

Photos Video Day

Image
I have a new video from Photos.  Frank would kill me if I put it on Instagram so I will put it here.  I’m not thrilled about myself either.  I don’t like putting my hair up. 😝 The kids all look nice though and Maddy looks really happy! ❤️ Well, the video wouldn’t upload so here are some of the pictures, some of which I have already posted and I added a few more. (The order got mixed up. 🫤)

Puzzles Galore

Image
Yay, these finally arrived in the mail today and I got them for $1.04 each including shipping.  I wonder if I can complete all the puzzles before I die?  I will not actually make it a goal though because I want to just enjoy them and not be under pressure. 😂. Although if I am fortunate enough to live as long as my grandmothers, it should be a piece of cake.  (But only if I’m really dedicated to doing crossword puzzles.) Update: I haven’t been doing crossword puzzles as much lately and when I do I’m still using a book that I had before the new one’s arrived.  Oh no, time is a wasting.  It doesn’t really matter though because whatever I do with my life will be good enough.

Dream Specters

Image
I never know what specters of things I might see when I close my eyes and I’m halfway between being awake and asleep or halfway between being asleep and awake.  It doesn’t happen all the time or I don’t remember all the time, but it is always interesting.  There are probably more of my dream images that I have found actual images for, but they are lost back amongst my thousands of photos. The foot of a woman with her toes sticking out of her sock.  Maybe a poor woman.  I can’t easily find a photo of such a thing.
