Advice To My Younger Self

I think one big piece of advice that I would give to my younger adult self would be, “You don’t need to understand everything.  Don’t waste time thinking that this is necessary.  Experience teaches us as we go along and our focus should be on what we are doing at that point in our lives and how we can best do the things that we need to do without wasting our time and attention worrying about our perceived inadequacies.  There are always things to be learned from all of our experiences although I know that there are times when we don’t have much time or freedom to devote to our interests and personal goals.  It is difficult to feel that we need to work on ourselves and we don’t even have time for this.  The time for these things will come again.  For the now, just dig in and do your best with what your life is about.  There are always things to be learned from the tasks at hand and you needn’t worry about all that you don’t know and feel that you should.  Just work with whatever is immediate and important in your life and just do your best.  There are treasures for us where we don’t see them until we are able to perceive them in hindsight.  You are more capable than you realize.  And most importantly don’t waste yourself and your time in worrying too much about what others think or will think of you.  This is just a waste of your mental focus and energy and can only get in your way of being and becoming your best version of yourself.

In editing this entry, I wanted to ad the following.  When I was a young adult and college graduate, I still felt that I didn’t know nearly enough about anything.  This made feel inadequate and that I didn’t know and hadn’t ever really learned enough to live to live my life properly or really be competent at anything.  These were the feelings that I experienced when I was a younger adult that led me to thinking about the advice that I would like to give my younger self.
