Kite Flying
I just read something about kite flying. Back in the day when I was young, we flew kites using only the small spools of string with no handles. I believe we looked for sturdy enough sticks to put through the spools to hold onto them with. I was always quite terrified of having the string pulled out of my hands and then losing my kite. An airborne kite on a breezy day could really pull on the spool of string. This is why it was important to find a good stick. It was always fun though to fly a kite. Do kids nowadays go outside and do things like fly kites. I know the world with its technology is now very different, but kids are still kids. I guess the question is whether they have the time and opportunity to do these kinds of things and someone to show them older activities that are fun, even if anxiety provoking. I remember the kite store in Provincetown Cape Cod with all its big and fancy kites. I never had enough spending money to buy an expensive kite like that, but I think I would’ve been too terrified of having something happened to it, if I had.
This is a thought that crosses my mind now and then. Imagine our countries pioneers who traveled across the country in wagon trains. They never could have dreamed that it could be possible to travel across the entire country in a few hours in a flying machine in the sky. This is why I need to spend less time watching news at this time in my life. I could be doing much better things like perhaps watching documentaries and reading books.
