Life Timelines
When I was younger, I always believed that I could count on being able to live at least as long as my grandmothers who lived to be 92 and 93 years old. When I moved to Texas in 2009, I was 42 and I believed that I should have at least another 50 years left to live and that I had more life left to live than I had thus far lived. Imagine that this was my calculation and belief just under 16 years ago! It is amazing how quickly numbers and ideas can shift. I now believe that living to the age of at least 90 is just a best case scenario and nothing that is guaranteed or can be counted on. And now my best case scenario time left has flipped to being significantly less than what I have already lived. It’s amazing what 16 years can do with numbers. 😲 On top of that, I have completely grasped the reality that life timelines come with no guarantees for anyone. Some people are blessed with many years to live, and others have shorter timelines, and none of us know what ours will prove to be. This may sound pessimistic, but it’s really just the reality of life. We are all just here and our life stories are ours to make the best of until they are finished. Medical issues can certainly change a person’s perspective.
