The Flintstones
Growing up I watched the Flintstones even though it wasn’t a favorite show of mine. I was just thinking and laughing about how Fred would go into a panic and be racing around in a state of dysfunction if Wilma so much as thought that the time might be coming soon for Pebbles to arrive. I could think of a funnier story (though maybe not for a children’s program). It would be better if Wilma was in active labor and ready to head out the door to go to the hospital. Fred would then say, “Wilma, I have to get myself something to eat for dinner before we can go to the hospital. I’m just going to cook a frozen pizza. That will be a quick and easy dinner. You just sit yourself down there now and relax for a few minutes. My pizza won’t take long.” When it is finished, Fred would happily carry his Pizza to the car, places it on the car dashboard and enjoy it on the way to the hospital. Now that would be a funny Fred. 😂 And that would just be a warm up for the next grand, baby arrival, adventure.
I wonder what I would think about the show if I watched it now. I don’t really remember the details except for Fred racing to leave work and nearly killing himself getting run over or something, Dino being overjoyed and tackling and licking him upon his arrival home, the family eating huge pieces of meat, Fred panicking when thinking that Pebbles was going to arrive, and the neighbors Barney and Betty Rubble having a very strong son named Bambam. Oh yes, and Wilma and Betty were great friends, Fred and Barney belonged to some men’s lodge group and Barney had a great sense of humor and was always laughing about things. And maybe Bambam was protective toward and had a soft spot for Pebbles. I don’t remember the actual episode stories though. It would be interesting to see how the content of the writing is reflective of the social ideas and attitudes of that period in time. (The 70s I mean. Not the stone ages. 😂) I could watch some old episodes. I will add it to my list of 5 million things that I might possibly decide to spend my time doing.
LOL, I just remembered Flintstones chewable vitamins. 😂 They were an essential part of any departure to school.
