Exploiting Others For Profit

I partially watched a 60 Minutes program on YouTube today.  Part of the program included stories about people from other countries being exploited for their labor by big American businesses.  I believe some of the people interviewed said they were being paid around $2 an hour on top of having unrealistic and stressful expectations placed upon them. The companies actually needing the labor outsourced the recruiting and hiring of the people to other businesses.  In one story, the company needing the labor had budgeted for a salary of between $12 to $13 an hour for the laborers hired.  They of course, were paid far less by the company who handled their actual hiring and labor and payment.  Middle man businesses obviously should have ethical and moral responsibility to the people they recruit and hire, but the original contracting businesses should also have an equal responsibility for ensuring that people hired for them are not mistreated and exploited by the businesses that they subcontract to.  The fact that this doesn’t take place shows how terrible the disease of greed is.  I get that a lot of struggling Americans fear that if everyone is treated fairly, things will become harder for them, and will be taken from them, when they are already working hard and struggling.  This shouldn’t be the case, though.  Everyone being treated fairly shouldn’t place hardships on average Americans who are just struggling to get by.  What should be the case is that the wealthiest people and corporations shouldn’t be consumed by greed at the expense of millions of other human beings.  If they weren’t consumed by a need to acquire and amass their mega billions of dollars in profits, things could be a whole lot better for a lot of people.  I get that people who are intelligent and work hard and achieve success should be rewarded for their efforts and their success.  They should be able to reap the rewards of what they have worked hard to achieve and earn.  This shouldn’t be achieved, though, through excessive greed and exploitation of other human beings.  If others are the backbone of their success, then they should be treated fairly and well.  Why would anyone need mega millions or billions of dollars to meet their needs as human beings?  Why would anyone need billions of dollars to live a good life?  I’m sure that anyone could lead a very comfortable and privileged life style with far less.  I know that not all of the wealthiest people are consumed by greed, but it seems that those who are are never satisfied.  They continue to feel the need to acquire more power and wealth.  Maybe they live in fear of others like themselves getting the upper hand.  That is a terrible mentality and way to live.  It is a source of evil and a vicious cycle.  People like this are not well as human beings, but they cannot comprehend their own mental state of disease that can only spread like a virus.  It seems that the virus of greed is really flaring up in the world at this time.
